Colorado’s Dunton River Camp has quickly become a bucket list destination for travellers across the globe. Combining a rustic, outdoor experience with luxury amenities and the beauty of the Rocky Mountains, a stay at this mountainside resort simply can’t be topped. Continue reading to discover all there is to know about this glamping paradise.

The Dunton Experience

We can’t think of a better way to take in the Colorado Rockies than at Dunton River Camp. Believe it or not, this luxury resort was actually a former cattle ranch. The original ranch farmhouse, which dates back to the nineteenth century, is still part of the property today. While the surrounding fields, meadows, and mountains have remained the same throughout recent history, what has changed is the addition of eight safari-style glamping tents (more on these below), which effectively turned this cattle farm into a summer-only luxury tented campground.

Included in the Dunton experience are all meals and beverages, as well as use of the riverside sauna. Dunton River Camp’s on-site chef sources all ingredients locally; lamb from the meadows, vegetables from the resort’s own farm. The only item they import is the wine, so that you’ll have the perfect pairing with every meal. To top it off, there is a fire pit outside the farmhouse that serves as a gathering place for guests. After dinner each night, guests are invited to sit around the fire, sip on some bourbon malt whiskey, and indulge in a s’more or two.

The Glamping Tents

Rest assured, these eight spacious tents are like nothing you’ve ever seen. Equipped with the amenities of a 5-star hotel, you’ll find luxury at every corner. Choose from a mountain tent nestled among the trees on the foothills of the San Juan Mountains, or a river tent overlooking the west fork of the Dolores River. Either option will provide the ultimate glamping experience, complete with endless views of the picturesque surroundings. Each tent features a king size bed, an ensuite bathroom with a 6-foot tub and towel warmers, complimentary Wi-Fi, a gas stove, a covered porch, two mountain bikes, and plenty of mountainside chic decor finishes. In essence, everything you need is right inside this lavish summer tent, creating the perfect cozy space to relax and escape from city life.

The Luxury Excursions

Close your eyes and picture yourself riding on horseback through the rugged Colorado mountains at sunrise, taking in the sounds of a babbling creek while fly fishing or standing in awe of the landscape down below as you perch on the summit of a 14,000-foot peak. These experiences are all possible at Dunton River Camp. In addition to luxury accommodations, this Colorado resort is all about the luxury excursion. Group activities are scheduled every morning and alternate between guided hikes, horseback riding, and fly fishing. However, there are plenty of other adventures that can be chosen à la carte for just you and your significant other. Private excursion options include mountain biking, rock climbing in the San Juans, rafting on the Dolores River, archeological desert tours, or photography and fine art. Whether you’re after a calm and relaxing afternoon or an adrenaline-pumping exploit, there is an outdoor activity for everyone at Dunton River Camp.
