5 Luxe Footwear Trends for Spring

Balmain’s Transparent Cap Toe Bootie (balmain.com)

As much as we love booties, there comes a time every year when we simply can’t wait to retire them to the back of the shoe closet. Say good-bye to winter boots and hello to some of the hottest footwear trends of the season. From glitter and transparent plastic to slingbacks and feathers, check out these five luxe shoe trends for spring.

Slingback Shoes

In case you didn’t believe it before, ’80s fashion is back. One of our fave fashion revivals from the era? Slingback shoes. These comfortable, high-fashion shoes are the perfect alternative to the classic pump. Work them into your office wardrobe or even just wear them to brunch — either way, you’ll want to pair this retro shoe with everything in your wardrobe. We can’t get enough of the flat sandal slingbacks we’re seeing everywhere from Balenciaga to Prada, but we also love heeled versions for an outdoor garden party. Jimmy Choo’s Erin 85 Embossed Leather Slingback Pumps are sure to put a spring in your step (pun intended!).

In the words of Rihanna, “Shine bright like a diamond.” This couldn’t ring more true for spring 2018. We’re seeing an abundance of sparkle and glitter when it comes to footwear, and we think a shiny shoe is the best way to make a statement this season. You can find glittering versions in all styles, such as heels, sneakers, and mules, and they’ll instantly add a fun element to any outfit. We love Brother Vellies’ Elevator Glittered Leather Boots, perfect for adding a little extra height.

Cowboy Boots

Okay, so we’re not recommending you entirely eliminate boots from your spring shoe closet. Cowboy boots are in… and not just for country chicks. These Western-style shoes are the perfect accessory for everything from midi dresses to denim skirts. They also offer ankle and foot protection, making them the ultimate transitional shoe for use in March and April. We’re loving the different iterations on offer from some of the top brands in the biz. While the mid-calf look is classic, there are also plenty of ankle boot options on the market. Ganni’s Callie Textured-Leather Ankle Boots are light, bright, and perfect for this time of year.

Add a funky accent to your footwear collection with the addition of a feathered shoe. We saw feathers all over the spring/summer 2018 runways (almost every pair of shoes worn by models at the Saint Laurent show were adorned with this light and fluffy detail), so it’s about time we worked it into our wardrobes. While Saint Laurent’s infamous yeti boot look may be better left in winter, there are plenty of spring-appropriate iterations of the trend — Roger Vivier’s Sin Feather And Crystal-Embellished Satin Sandals, for one. From reimagined mules to a funky twist on classic ballet flats, you can’t go wrong by adding a bit of fun to your footwear.

Remember the transparent raincoat trend from last spring? Well, it’s finally made its way to the world of footwear! Everything from clear plastic rain boots to heels were spotted on the runway (Chanel, Balmain, Moschino, and Calvin Klein all included the look in their spring/summer 2018 collections, to name a few). Another great transitional shoe, these are perfect for the spring rain that is inevitably on its way. We’re obsessed with Tom Ford’s Embellished Metallic Leather And PV Slingback Pumps. They’re the ideal blend of edgy and sophisticated.
