These Are the Hottest Beachwear Trends to Wear on Summer Vacation

Heading off for summer vacation? Don’t forget the beachwear ensembles — and that means a swimsuit as well as accessories! From sunglasses and sandals to cover-ups and headwear, a trip to the beach is an opportunity to explore a new area of your wardrobe. In order to create a look that is the ultimate combination of boho chic and trendy mod, we’ve put together a list of the hottest beachwear trends to wear on summer vacation.

Tiny Sunglasses

Tiny sunglasses are back! While we’ve seen a resurgence of early 2000s fashion lately, the big oversized sunnies as seen on Victoria Beckham, the Olsen twins, and Jessica Simpson didn’t quite make the cut. Instead, designers are favouring a miniature version and our fave celebs are following suit. Spotted on the likes of Queen Bey, Riri, the Hadid Sisters, and Kendall Jenner in the past few months, it appears that small specs are the eyewear trend of summer 2018. Whether you’re into the retro cat eye, classic rectangular, or the John Lennon-inspired round frame, they’re all back this season, as long as they’re small! Andy Wolf’s Florence Cat-Eye Acetate Sunglasses strike the perfect balance; they’re small without being childlike, and they have major ’60s mod vibes.

Raffia Crossbody Bags

Raffia, wicker, straw — this season, it’s all about the picnic basket-inspired handbag. From Miu Miu (pictured above) to Gucci, the biggest designers in the biz have included the summery texture in their resort wear collections, and we can’t get enough of it! Though we’re partial to the crossbody version as a versatile on-the-go bag, we’ve seen raffia purses in all forms, from totes to handbags.

Platform Sandals

Platform sandals have made a major comeback this season, but gone are your dad’s Tevas from the ’90s. Glam platforms in bold colours and fabrics make a serious statement for summer. Even Gucci jumped on the platform bandwagon by including the gold, glittery leather sandals above in its latest collection. In our opinion, these shoes are the ultimate cross between a casual sandal and a dressy heel; they provide added height that the typical sandal doesn’t, while offering all the comfort and support your feet need.

Oversized Straw Hats

The newsboy cap made a comeback for spring, but this season, it’s time to adopt the oversized floppy hat look. Not only do they offer maximum sun protection, but they also add a touch of chic to any summer outfit. Even better, they’re an instant solution to bad hair days. And remember, the rule for this summer is: the bigger the better! Eugenia Kim has continually wowed us with her daring millinery designs, including the ivory straw sunhat above.

Maxi Dress Cover-Ups

It’s time to step up your beach game. Gone are the days of simple sarongs, longline tunics, or oversized ponchos; this summer, it’s all about fashion-forward maxi dress cover-ups. Providing the perfect to-and-from-the-beach look, a long, flowing dress is a must in your summer wardrobe. Not only will they give your skin a break after a poolside tanning session, but they’re versatile, meaning you can wear them to the beach or pool, as well as around town (in case your morning swim turns into an impromptu brunch date). Oddysey’s Kalita Silk Habotai Maxi Dress is one of our faves — and will look flawless paired with a raffia crossbody or tote.
