The Best Swimwear Trends For Men

Summer is a chance to rock the hottest swimwear trends of the moment. Whether you’re headed on summer vacation or hitting up the coolest rooftop pool bar in your city, being fashion-forward is just as important for beachwear as it is for streetwear. From military-esque swim trunks to tropical prints inspired by your dad’s Hawaiian shirt, check out these five swimwear trends for men.

Military

When it comes to men’s swimwear, in this season are cargo, camouflage, and everything in between. Think snaps, pockets, and hues of khaki and military green. These Tom Ford Camouflage Print Swim Trunks combine several of this season’s hottest swimwear trends into one: they have an army-inspired motif, a slim fit on the leg, and a mid-thigh cut. Plus, they’re nylon and have side adjusters on the waist so you can tighten them when they inevitably become looser after getting wet.

Athletic

With athleisure as hot as it is in fashion right now, it’s no surprise that athletic-inspired bathing suits are majorly on-trend this summer (for both men and women!). When it comes to the male iteration of the trend, it’s all about shiny nylon, side stripes, and for a hint of retro, dolphin hems — think your dad’s high school P.E. uniform from the ’70s. Gucci in particular has been killing it this season with its retro athletic swimwear. From white short shorts fit for a tennis match to the GG Nylon Swim Short Trunk, this collection is the perfect way to rock athletic wear on the beach. Plus, they are inherently versatile, providing the perfect to-and-from-the-pool look.

Short Shorts

The new rule for men’s swimwear: the shorter the better! A short hemline is what it’s all about this season, and you can thank James Bond for providing the inspiration. As you may have noticed, hemlines for men’s bathing suits are constantly changing, but gone are the knee-length board shorts of the early 2000s. Now on-trend is the style of showing a bit (or, rather, a lot) of leg. The perfect pair of short swim trunks should hit you between your mid and upper thigh and have a slim, tapered fit along the leg. Gucci, Tom Ford, Dolce & Gabbana, Moncler, Orlebar Brown, and more of the world’s top designers have all created men’s swimwear that follows this new short shorts trend.

Colour Block

This summer, men’s swimwear is going back to basics. One of the biggest trends of 2018 is the colour block swimsuit. For all those men too shy to rock a pair of bold print swim trunks, this is the trend for you. Simple and monotone, you’ll find the biggest designer brands on board with this classic look. Dolce & Gabbana is one such fashion house that has come out with an entire line of colour block swimwear in trendy shades of meadowlark yellow, deep burgundy, stark white, and more.

Tropical Prints

Yes, that’s right. This is another 2018 trend that takes a nod from your dad’s closet. Summery, tropical print swim trunks (that look an awful lot like your father’s Hawaiian shirts from the ’90s), featuring everything from palm fronds and flowers to sea turtles and pineapples, have made a comeback this season. Bright and bold, you’ll find this trend in hues of turquoise, forest green, fuchsia, candy apple red, and canary yellow. If you’re after a bit of fun in the sun, look no further than tropical motif swimwear.
