The Best 2018 Swimwear Trends For Women

With summer comes long weekends, warm weather, and of course, pool parties! Whether you’re hitting the beach or your favourite swim-up pool bar, you’re going to need a new swimsuit in which to strut your stuff. Athletic-inspired swimsuits, balconette bikinis, and romantic ruffles are just a few of the biggest swim trends of 2018. Read on for our five favourite swimwear options this season.

Smocking

There’s no denying it: the early 2000s have made a fashion comeback, and yes, that extends to swimwear. You’ve probably seen smocked tube tops in the windows of your favourite stores, and depending on whether you’re a fan of the trend, you might be pleasantly surprised to learn that smocked bathing suits have also been hitting the shelves this summer! This sweet, southern-inspired look is comfortable, romantic, feminine, and majorly figure-flattering. Luxury lifestyle brand Lisa Marie Fernandez (pictured above) has been at the forefront of the smocked swimsuit trend and we can’t get enough of it!

Ruffle Detailing

Once again, soft and romantic details are key this summer, and what’s more romantic than ruffles? Rather than the over-the-top ruffles of the past, this summer is all about the small, subtle ruffle. Think ruffled shoulder straps and linings. If you’re looking to add a whimsical touch to your swimwear collection, look no further than Zimmermann’s 2018 collection (the Tali Ruffled Floral Print Swimsuit is above), which is filled with bikinis, monokinis, and one pieces covered in ruffle detailing.

One-Shoulder One-Pieces

One-pieces have seen a major resurgence in the last few years. No longer reserved for middle-aged moms and athletes, these figure-flattering swimsuits have gotten a major upgrade. While you’ll see many iterations of the look at your favourite retailers this summer, one of the biggest trends is one-shoulder swimsuits. Allowing you to show off a little extra skin, this classic and sexy neckline is a home run for any age. From Emilio Pucci to Marios Schwab (pictured above), don’t miss out on this elegant swimwear trend.

Athletic-Inspired Swimsuits

Thanks to the Hadid sisters, athleisure has become one of the most popular fashion trends of the past two years. And given how swimwear trends tend to mimic fashion, it’s no surprise that athletic-inspired swimsuits are back in a big way. Minimalist and sporty, you can expect to see bikinis and one-pieces with athletic detailing like zippers and collars in bright, bold colours (Baywatch red, anyone?). Now’s the time to channel your inner Blue Crush surfer and hit the beach decked in a suit that’s ready for adventure! The on-trend colourblock swimsuit by Flagpole, pictured above, is just one of our fave iterations of the trend!

Balconette Bikini Tops

Balconette bikini tops are in and we couldn’t be happier. This lingerie-inspired look is both sexy and feminine, and, given their likeness to the balconette bra, they offer additional support that your typical triangle bikini simply wouldn’t. So if you’re looking for a swimsuit with a push-up feature, the balconette bikini is your best bet. Of course, Dolce & Gabbana has been at the forefront of this trend and has stocked its summer 2018 swimsuit collection chock-full of these balconette beauties in all sorts of wild and colourful patterns, from florals to veggies (pictured above).
