Olvi: Crystal Nights Collection Inspired By The Roaring 20s

The Duchess of Sussex — better known as Meghan Markle — recently set the Internet on fire with the unveiling of her much-anticipated wedding gown. On the big day, Markle arrived wearing Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy Couture, a sleek and minimalist gown with bracelet-length sleeves and an elegant train. But perhaps the showstopper was the Duchess’ veil. Held in place by a particularly swanky ‘something borrowed’ — Queen Mary’s diamond bandeau tiara, loaned to the young bride by the reigning queen — this five-metre veil served as a simple but stunning homage to the historical and political allegiances of her groom’s kin and country. Trimmed along the edges of this veil was intricate lace, featuring flora from each of the fifty-three countries of the Commonwealth of Nations.

Lace is seemingly always on trend, though it’s safe to say that this striking choice by the much-beloved new Duchess will result in many lacey looks gracing the covers of fashion magazines this summer. For those who wish to follow in the path of the new royal, fashion brand Olvi is ready with some royalty-worthy frocks. According to the brand, it takes a team of twenty-three to create the lace for a royal wedding gown; Olvi pays the same attention to detail in each of its own creations for its “self-made princesses.”

Olvi was founded by Olga Yermoloff, who grew up in a small village and inherited a love of handmade lace while dreaming of one day leaving rural life for the fast-paced world of fashion. She made her way to Amsterdam, where she founded Olvi and earned attention for the unique lacework of her cocktail dresses, bridal gowns, skirts and trousers, and more. Women have been flocking to these ultra-feminine frocks; recently, The Bachelor contestant Becca Kufrin — this year’s Bachelorette — wore a lacey black Olvi number on the season finale.

The Olvi studio is described by the brand as a “candy shop” for those who work in fashion, a utopia of couture filled with the finest French stretch lace and bobbins of yarn in a rainbow of colours. And now that studio has produced an exquisite line christened the Crystal Nights Collection, perfect for the romantic garden parties and evening soirees of summer.

According to a recent press release, Crystal Nights was inspired by the fashions and shifting politics of the Roaring Twenties, “the era that women found their voice and embraced their beauty.” Here the decade of flappers and speakeasies is given a welcome contemporary update — forget those unflattering dropped waists! The Crystal Nights Collection features sexy, frame-hugging silhouettes. Vibrant florals and pale pastels are the name of the game in this vintage-chic line.

For those looking to update their summertime little black dress, this floor-length gown with peekaboo lace sleeves is the perfect attire for an evening gala.

For those in search of a less formal, more bohemian vibe, this black robe paired with skin-tight leather pants is the perfect combination of feminine and edgy.

And for those ultra formal summer events, this gown is a showstopper. The plunging neckline and transparent mermaid-cut bottom will keep things cool on steamy nights. And the truly irresistible detail here is that pink and red embroidery on the back; sheer fabric gives these bold blossoms the appearance of a striking tattoo.

Those interested in introducing a little loveable lace to their summer wardrobe can shop the Olvi Crystal Nights collection here.
